The Indian Springs chapter of the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society at Jackson High School hosted and participated in their first regional history bowl and history bee competitions on Saturday, January 14th. JHS fielded two history bowl teams, consisting of four members each. Our competitors were (from left to right in the attached photograph): Tyler Morris (11), Joba Duke (12), Madison Cosby (12), Audrey Harkness (11), Madison Turner (11), Adrianna Basterash (12), Connor LaChappelle (9) and Christian Cline (11, not pictured). Several students also entered the history bee, which is an individual competition held on the same day. Senior Madison Cosby made it to the semi-final round, qualifying her for the National History Bee in Washington D.C. in April.

The chapter will also host the southeast region finals of the middle school level National History Bee next Thursday, February 2nd at JHS. Additionally, students are working with the Korean War Legacy Foundation in an effort to record and transcribe interviews with veterans of the Korean War. If you are a Korean War veteran, or know someone who served in America's "Forgotten Victory," please contact Rho Kappa sponsors Jason and Laura LaChappelle at Jackson High School--these students would love the chance to be able to speak with you!
